Mullin challenges Avenatti to fight
U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin challenged Michael Avenatti, the high-profile lawyer of adult actress Stormy Daniels, to a charity fight Tuesday morning.
The challenge came in response to Avenatti’s suggestion last week that he and Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, compete in a mixed martial arts fight.
“It’s ridiculous that @ MichaelAvenatti would even challenge @DonaldJTrumpJr to a fight,” Mullin wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “But if he’s looking for a publicity stunt, I‘d be more than happy to meet him on the mat.”
Mullin, a Westville Republican and staunch defender of President Donald Trump, is a for mer mixed martial arts fighter with a 3-0 record in the Xtreme Fighting League. He introduced legislation last year to extend boxing regulations to mixed martial arts.
It’s not clear how serious Avenatti’s challenge to Trump Jr. was or whether the president’s son is interested. Avenatti has rocketed to popularity as an attorney for Stephanie Clifford, the adult film star known as Stormy Daniels, and has billed himself as a thorn in the side of the Trumps.
Avenatti proposed his proceeds from the fight would be split, with half going to rebuilding Puerto Rico and the other half going to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, an anti-sexual violence organization.
