Parents remain jailed in twin’s death

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

A malnourished 5-month-old boy is in critical condition in an Oklahoma City hospital, and his parents remained jailed Tuesday in the death of his twin brother, police reported.

Sir D. Neal was taken from an apartment in the 5500 block of S Walker Avenue, to Integris Southwest Medical Center by his parents about 4 a.m. Friday, police reported. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The parents have been arrested on child neglect complaints in Oklahoma City, police reported. No charges had been filed Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court.

At the Timberwood Apartments on Tuesday, a woman said a man who knew the parents asked apartment tenants for money to buy the babies milk because they were underweight, she said.

“That is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard,” said the woman, who did not want to give her name. “It’s a sad ordeal, and it is just really sad that the baby had to die.”

She said the apartment was filthy and was “not a clean environment for a child.”

Doctors reported the boy was severely malnourished and apparently died of a heart attack, according to police.

The cause and manner of the boy’s death had not been determined Tuesday by the state medical examiner’s office.

Doctors contacted police, and officers arrested the parents, Secoya Angelee McNeary, 28, and Sirtramane Antoine Neal, 37. Police said a twin boy was found at their apartment, police reported.

The surviving boy, who was also severely malnourished, was taken into state custody and has been hospitalized at OU Medical Center, police reported.

McNeary and Neal were both in the Oklahoma County jail Tuesday in lieu of $101,000 bail apiece.
