Meeker looking for rivalry revenge

DJ Howell forgotten.

He promises his team has not forgotten either.

In his first game as Meeker head coach last season, his Bulldogs had a 10-point lead with minutes left against Lincoln County rival Prague.

That's when the wheels fell off.

Prague scored two late touchdowns in less than four minutes of play to win 34-30.

"For 365 days plus we have thought about this game," Howell said. "This was a game I was told about when hired.

"So those guys will have our full and undivided has not attention."

Meeker (7-1, 4-1) is rolling right along this season. Quarterback Jacob Martin is coming off another fantastic performance in the Bulldog's win last week against Holdenville. Martin threw for two touchdowns, while running for a third as Meeker won 56-24.

"Just a smart, tough football player," Howell said. "As the season has progressed we have figured out more and more ways to utilize all his skills."

Purcell finding its stride

Purcell coach Tracy Scott says things are starting to slow down.

The first-year coach at Purcell was hired in May after serving as Blanchard's defensive coordinator for several years.

It was a bit of a rocky start to his tenure, losing three of the first five including two shutout losses to Plainview and Washington.

But the Dragons have rebounded, winning three straight games including a 49-19 trouncing of Pauls Valley this past week.

"We are really getting on a roll and playing better," Scott said. "Our system has taken a little longer for our guys to get, but they are really getting a grasp on things now and executing."

Against Pauls Valley, junior running back Addison Love rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns to the led the way for the Dragons.

On the year, Love has 834 yards rushing and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Purcell will travel to Lone Grove on Friday.
