Barbara Neil, the owner-operator of The Original Nearly New Shoppe, knows the thrill of retail isn’t new. Her family has had ties to the Oklahoma City resale community for several decades, though store locations and ownership roles have changed over the years, the family has always stayed close to the Nearly New brand.
“We have customers who come into the store and talk about how their mothers outfitted them from a Nearly New Shoppe when they were younger,” Neil said. “They’re surprised when we tell them we’re the same ones who were there all those years ago.”
Her stepdaughter Kelli Brown is the owner-operator of the Nearly New Shoppe on MacArthur. Brown became the owner of the store three years ago after purchasing it from the previous owner, a family friend who originally bought the store from Neil over 30 years ago. Now, Brown and Neil frequently collaborate to point customers toward the clothing items they want.
Both Brown and Neil are proud of the quality of each item that is for sale in each of their stores.
“I like selling clothing that is affordable and professional looking,” Brown said. “There’s something here for everyone, no matter their taste or style. Often times, we have items in the store that are new with the tags still attached!”
Neil and her staff review each piece of clothing to make sure they are top-quality. Consignors who sell through the store receive 50 percent of the sale price. Brown’s store follows a consignment process like Neil’s and regularly sells clothing from brands like Talbots, Coach, Michael Kors and Loft. Neil includes designer items and handbags from brands including Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Lululemon in her store’s offerings.

“Dottie has a knack for dressing people,” Neil said. Williams takes special care with window displays and puts together fashion show events. These events feature clothing for specific groups or trends. Some feature curvy and plus-sized fashions, others may include men’s clothing. The intention which is carried at both stores is to make every group feel and look great.
Both Neil and Brown know their attention to detail sets them apart from other consignment shops. They love building relationships with their customers and dressing them for the important events in their lives.
