A longtime stripper who was married to mail bomb suspect Cesar Altieri Sayoc divorced him in 2004 after moving back to Oklahoma, records show.

Roberta Altieri wrote in her petition that the two married on May 13, 1998, in Conway, South Carolina, and were separated. She asked a judge to dissolve her marriage on abandonment grounds.

An Oklahoma County judge agreed on May 10, 2004.

Her mother, Billie Mode, said the two met because both were stripping for a living.

“He did a lot of birthday parties, telegrams, stuff like that,” Mode said. “He was such a good looking hunk of man. For his profession, you know, he had the muscles.”

Mode, who lives in Del City, said she has been estranged from her daughter for years and is not even sure what last name her daughter goes by now.

The daughter could not be reached for comment. Friends said she became distant after being severely injured in a motorcycle accident in Norman in 2016.

Mode said she met Sayoc only once at a high school graduation ceremony in Kentucky for her stepdaughter. She said Sayoc and her daughter turned heads when they arrived a little late.

She said the two were together only a few months. The two married at the Horry County courthouse in South Carolina. Sayoc is listed in courthouse records as four years younger than his actual age. He would later have a run-in with authorities for possessing a fake ID with an altered birthdate.

He was not present for his Oklahoma divorce hearing. His wife reported she did not know his whereabouts. She paid for a newspaper notice about her petition to comply with legal requirements.

An Ohio event promoter told the Washington Examiner on Friday that he hired Sayoc to strip on multiple occasions during the 1990s and that Sayoc traveled the country for similar appearances.

“Back in the ‘90s, he was running around from Minnesota to the Carolinas to Florida. He was like a gypsy,” promoter Tony Valentine said. “He was dancing for a guy out in Oklahoma, too.”
