Freshman offensive lineman added to redshirt watch

- Joe Mussatto jmussatto@ oklahoman.com

Freshman offensive lineman Brey Walker, from Westmoore High School, made his Sooner debut Saturday against Kansas State.

He's been added to the redshirt tracker while another pair of freshmen — safety Delarrin Turner-Yell and defensive end Jalen Redmond — played in their second games of the season.

College football’s new redshirt rule allows players to participate in up to four games and still redshirt and maintain an extra year of eligibility. We’ll monitor how the Sooners are using the rule each week in our redshirt tracker.

Players who are out for the season with injuries are not listed. Upperclassmen who have surpassed five games played are not listed. The games played information comes from OU’s official participation logs.

Rise in ranks

Oklahoma is back to where it was in the preseason: ranked No. 7 in the AP Poll.

The latest poll, released Sunday afternoon, comes after OU's dominant 51-14 win at home Saturday against Kansas State. The Sooners moved up a spot from No. 8 last weekend.

Oklahoma has been ranked as high as No. 5 and as low as No. 11 this season.

Two other Big 12 teams are ranked: No. 12 West Virginia and No. 15 Texas.

The first College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled at 6 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.

Kickoff time announced

Oklahoma and Texas Tech will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday in Lubbock, Texas in the prime time slot on ABC.

When the Sooners and Red Raiders last met at Jones AT&T Stadium in 2016, OU beat Texas Tech 66-59 in a crazed scoring fest in which both teams recorded 854 yards of offense. That game also kicked off at 7 p.m.

Saturday will be Oklahoma's first road night game of the season.

Texas Tech (5-3, 3-2 Big 12) is coming off a 40-31 loss at Iowa State on Saturday.

Extra point

Oklahoma tallied 702 yards of offense against Kansas State — its highest output of the season.

Saturday marked the 11th time in history that OU has surpassed the 700-yard mark. Five of those games have been since 2015 when Lincoln Riley started calling plays.

OU also leads the nation for most 50-plus point games since 2015: 19.
