Fight ends year for U.S. Grant and Capitol Hill
A brawl following the postgame handshake between U.S. Grant and Capitol Hill will end both schools' seasons.
Following a 22-17 victory by U.S. Grant, players began to scuffle that led into a brawl.
It was decided by Oklahoma City Public Schools that both football teams will forfeit their final games of the year this Friday.
U.S. Grant was set to travel to Tulsa Noah, while Capitol Hill was to host the OKC Patriots.
Oklahoma City Public Schools released the following statement:
“Friday night’s incident at the football game between Capitol Hill High School and U.S. Grant High School was unfortunate and does not reflect the values or sportsmanship that OKCPS expects of our student athletes and fans. OKCPS is fully cooperating with law enforcement and students involved will be disciplined according to our Student Code of Conduct. We also reserve the right to ban for six months patrons who were involved in fighting and inappropriate behavior.
"As always, the safety of our students, fans and staff is a priority and this type of behavior will not tolerated at any OKCPS facility. We will review and take preventive action to ensure an incident like this does not happen again. We are grateful to Oklahoma City Police for their support at Friday’s game.”
U.S. Grant and Capitol Hill have now completed five seasons of independence from Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association play.
What was originally a four-year plan to play independent football was given a two-year extension in April 2017 to continue playing an independent schedule while working to build each programs' participation numbers.

Norman North’s Martin has breakout performance
Norman North running back Blaine Martin broke loose. It just took a little longer than expected.
Martin, a junior, rushed for 326 yards and two touchdowns while piling up more than 400 all-purpose yards in the Wolves’ 41-12 rout of Edmond North.
“He finally had the breakout game we knew he could have,” first-year Norman North coach Justin Jones said. “He’s been able to utilize his speed and show he’s an explosive back.”
Martin missed the first four games of the season. He had to gain eligibility after moving from Jones. Norman North (2-7) will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
