The Oklahoman

3-2-1 KICKOFF

- NATHAN RUIZ, STAFF WRITER

Oklahoma State visits Baylor at 11 a.m. Saturday as the Cowboys pursue bowl eligibility. Here’s what to look for:

3 Players to Watch

Tyron Johnson: After receiver Tylan Wallace’s 222-yard performance against Texas, the Bears would be smart to focus on him, which could mean a big day for Johnson. Malcolm Rodriguez: Rodriguez returned to full health with an 11-tackle day against the Longhorns. He and the rest of the Cowboys secondary will be tested again against Baylor. Teven Jenkins: With health issues abound on the Cowboys’ offensive line, there’s no telling which tackle spot Jenkins will occupy Saturday.

2 Big Questions

Can Taylor Cornelius repeat? A five-touchdown, no-turnover day is a big ask for a quarterback, but Cornelius pulled off the feat in OSU’s upset of Texas. Can he find similar rhythm to guide the Cowboys past the Bears?

What’s new? Last week, the Cowboys broke out plays that had Cornelius under center as part of an I-formation. They used plenty of other two-back sets, as well. Without the benefit of an open date, what else can OSU spring on Baylor?

1 Wild Prediction

OSU’s defense records two interceptions. The Cowboys have gone consecutive games without forcing a turnover for the first time since November 2002. They’ve managed only four interceptions through eight games this season and only one in the past four games. Baylor is tied with OSU for third in the Big 12 interceptions thrown with eight, and three of those came among eight attempts from (a likely concussed) Charlie Brewer last week against West Virginia.
