Fall flowers
This year, floral patterns are blooming at an unusual time.
Florals in the spring are a given. But for fall fashion? Not so much. That’s what makes this trend even more appealing this season. These are dark florals, more autumnal, said Cindi Shelby, director of new stylists for Worth New York.
“More sophisticated, not so precious. Deep plums and dark reds, not pretty pastels,” she said.
While these florals are unexpected, they’re not drab or dreary.
The colors are rich and vibrant, often on dark backgrounds, though occasionally blooms dot a bright backdrop.
This season, dark florals liven up dresses, jackets, skirts, blouses, sweaters and pants.
Often, it’s an allover print; sometimes just a sprinkling across the front or sleeve of a dress.
If neck to knee is too much pattern, consider a solid color sweater, blouse or jacket with a floral skirt or floral slim-fitting pants. Maybe a floral scarf or a pair of floral pumps, booties or flats.
“Florals never looked so good,” said Jane Webb, owner of CK & Co., adding they look fresh when mixed with other patterns such as stripes. Play around with florals and plaid or animal print, too.
“It’s a season to bloom,” Webb said. Florals may be taking on a different feel as cold weather rolls in, but they never go out of season, said Lauren Vocelle, media relations manager and style expert for Macy’s.
“This fall, add a little edge to dark floral midi dresses and skirts with statement jackets in moto or athleisure styles,” she suggests.
