The Daily Oklahoman reported it had been a “turbulent” campaign leading up to the election of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s third term. In Oklahoma, Oklahoma County Assessor Jim Bodine was encouragin­g citizens to “forget the pre-election fights and get down to work for a united America.” Bodine was planning to hand out “United America” stickers to everyone, regardless of party.
