7-Eleven working with heart association to offer healthy snacks

Oklahoma City-based 7-Eleven stores are working alongside the American Heart Association to develop a collection of healthy snack and meal options that meet the association's dietary recommendations.

“We currently offer many healthy options in our stores,” 7-Eleven Marketing Director Sarah Hartman said. “But we’re still working to expand our selection of healthy snacks and lunches.”

Oklahoma ranks 49th in the country in the rate of cardiovascular deaths and according to the heart association, a key contributor is the state’s high obesity rate and overall poor diet.

“What we’re seeing is that people, oftentimes, don’t even realize that what they’re eating is unhealthy,” said Debbie Hite-Stewart, the American Heart Association's senior executive director.
