Cowboys going duck hunting

Oklahoma State and Oregon have agreed to a home-and-home series, with the teams meeting in Eugene, Oregon in 2025 and in Stillwater the next year.

Southwest Covenant quarterback Ben Webb discovered early this season that his newest receiver was a difference maker.

He takes a bit of pride in that. He had only been asking Will Haas to join the football team for six years.

“I literally knew nothing about football,” Haas said. “But they knew I was fast and kept bugging me. I finally said yes.”

That connection was at its best this past Friday night as Webb tossed five touchdown passes, all to Haas, on the way to the Patriots taking out Tyrone 56-16 in the quarterfinals of the Class C playoffs.

Webb ended up throwing for 235 yards and six touchdowns. Haas caught eight passes for 134 yards and the five scores.

The Patriots are undefeated, advancing the furthest the young program has ever gone in the playoffs. They're having a ton of fun doing it, says Webb.

“We’ve definitely reached beyond our expectations,” he said. “It’s cool to see how much the school is behind us and how they all are excited by what we are doing.”

As Southwest Covenant prepares to take on Buffalo this Friday at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, senior running back Trevor Kelly said they’ve had some moments of reflection about how far they’ve come.

“We definitely have to set the tone and set the example for the guys in the future,” Kelly said. “We are the ones setting the bar.

“I think that’s probably something we’ll remember forever.”

CHA coach wins national honor

Christian Heritage Academy Heath Kufahl was named the Coach of the Year by The American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Kufahl, who has coached CHA volleyball for 18 years, will receive the honor at a banquet in Minneapolis on Dec. 13.

Kufahl has led CHA to the state tournament 12 straight times, including this past season in which the Crusaders went to the finals in Class 4A.

Kufahl has led CHA to four state titles.

As part of the award, Kufahl will also coach one of two Under Armour AllAmerican Volleyball teams.

Carl Albert's Dadrion Taylor proving he's healthy

Carl Albert star running back Dadrion Taylor looks like his old self after missing the first half of the season with a knee injury.

And that’s a good thing for the top-ranked undefeated Titans.

Taylor rushed for four touchdowns in the Titans' 42-6 win over Claremore during last week’s Class 5A state quarterfinal.

“I think he’s been on par,” Carl Albert coach Mike Corley said. “I think he’s run really well. The other night, he finished some runs like he did last year when he was healthy. That’s good to see.”

The Titans travel to Owasso on Friday to play undefeated No. 3 Collinsville in the state semifinals. The Titans have won a statebest 34 straight games.

And with Taylor’s return to form that helped Carl Albert win a second straight title last season, confidence remains high.

“It’s a good time to be healthy and having everybody available,” Corley said.
