Unsurprising opposition Do laws matter anymore?
Regarding “Baptist panel passes anti-pot measure” (News, Nov. 14): Were they really expecting an organization that largely advocates abstinence from alcohol to avoid a hard line against marijuana? Green the Vote and other marijuana advocates continue to muddy the waters in discussing “benefits” of pot. By taking studies largely financed by organizations on their side of this debate, Green the Vote and others promote reports supporting their conclusions as though they are scientific gospel. The actual medicinal effects of marijuana for any number of ailments is, at best, varied and inconclusive. This drug whose effect is largely a numbing agent (not a regenerative let alone remedying one) is by many standards one of the least reliable of the hundreds of non-opioid treatments available for patients.
If Southern Baptists are accused of putting on blinders when it comes so social acceptance of marijuana, then Green the Vote is similarly guilty of its own blinders by telling the public that marijuana is the cure-all for every illness imaginable. SBC members live in the same 21st century as the rest of us, and the available treatments for sickness don’t start or end with pot. Oklahoma will know over the next few years if its acceleration of pot legalization will increase its use (especially among youth) across the state. Up until those conclusions, SBC is simply being true to itself in erring on the side of caution.

As I manage to grow older, I have misplaced my list. Daily I see cars with expired paper tags. We know that many drive without insurance. Our immigration laws are blatantly ignored. Social programs to help the helpless are scammed by opportunists. Single-family residences have three families with children in the home. Red lights are run all day long. I’ve misplaced my list. Would someone please repost the list of laws we are to obey?
