Exhibit highlights oil painters’ work through Dec. 1
Technical finesse in such genres as landscape and still life is the most impressive aspect of a show by the Dorothy Woolbright Painters.
The exhibit is on view through Dec. 1 at the Paseo Art Space, 3022 Paseo, home of the Paseo Art Association.
An Oklahoma City artist and teacher, Woolbright founded the group for oil painters doing both alla prima and studio work.
A deep crimson background works well with Woolbright’s oil of a glass vase of “Roses in Pink and White” in one work.
Strong sunlight and shadow patterns enhance the impact of Bill Patterson’s oils of a “Taos Field” and Santa Fe’s “Basilica of St. Francis.”
A silhouetted figure with an umbrella in front of lighted store windows becomes the focal point of Bob Calvert’s oil of a “Rainy Night in Paris.”
Beverly White’s “Deep Freeze” offers us a small yet panoramic oil of dark cattle, scattered across a wide mountain snow field.
Church steeples at the end of a snowy street give an exotic feel to an atmospheric oil by Debbie McCord called “Winter.”
“Sun Kissed Oranges” jump out from two oils by Barbara Fluty, while “Peaches from Tuscany” are accented by a blue cup in an oil by Bhupinder Obhrai.
Janie Deupree captures the intriguing shapes of the “Couse House” in Taos, and Cheryl J. Smith vividly depicts a small red “Bird” on a snowy branch.
Annabel Givens offers us an aerial view of flower and fruit vendors wearing straw hats paddling narrow boats in green waters. The show is highly recommended.
