UCO’s Bevis becomes three-time All-American

Taylor Bevis of the University of Central Oklahoma was named honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Associatio­n on Tuesday.

Bevis is the first three-time All-American in UCO history. The senior outside hitter from Wichita, Kansas, was a third-team AVCA All-America pick in 2016 and a first-team selection last year. Bevis collected 412 kills with 376 digs and 61 total blocks in leading the Bronchos to a 27-7 record in her final campaign.

NRHA to honor William Shatner

The National Reining Horse Associatio­n will honor actor and member William Shatner on Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.

Shatner, one of pop culture’s most recognizab­le figures for his role in the television series Star Trek, will receive the Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievemen­t Award at State Fair Park. Shatner is a dedicated horseman and has been a high-level promoter and fundraiser for the sport of reining. He has won numerous world championsh­ips in several equine events. The NRHA Futurity is going on through Saturday at State Fair Park.

OSU soccer players named to all-region team

Oklahoma State’s Kim Rodriguez and Haley Woodard have been named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s All-Midwest Region third team.

A sophomore defender, Rodriguez tied for OSU’s leading scorer in 2018 as she tallied 14 points on four goals and six assists. Woodard capped her OSU career by tying for the team lead with six goals in 16 game.

The United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region consists of schools from four conference­s – the Big 12, MidAmerica­n, Missouri Valley and Southland.

OCU falls in NAIA volleyball championsh­ips

Defending national champion Lindsey Wilson, Kentucky, defeated Oklahoma City University 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 Tuesday in the NAIA volleyball championsh­ips at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Stars dropped to 0-1 in pool play and 31-4 overall. OCU had won their previous 10 matches. The top two teams from each pool advance to bracket play starting Friday. Oklahoma City meets 11th-ranked Eastern Oregon at noon Wednesday and No. 21 Central Methodist (Mo.) at 10 a.m. Thursday in the NAIA Championsh­ips.
