Rematch leads to surge in ticket sales

-

Ticket sales to the Big 12 Championship game are up 160 percent compared to last year, according to data from StubHub.

Oklahoma vs. Texas is the ideal matchup for ticket brokers. OU faced TCU in the title game last year. The Sooners and Longhorns kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The game was announced as a sellout Tuesday afternoon. Both participating schools were allotted 8,500 tickets. Secondary market sites like StubHub, Vivid Seats and SeatGeek now hold most of the remaining tickets.

StubHub is the world’s largest ticket marketplace. The cheapest get-in price for Saturday on StubHub is $68.50 for a standing-room only ticket. The Big 12 and AT&T Stadium agreed to sell 10,000 standing-room only tickets.

The cheapest reserved seat on StubHub is $108, including taxes and fees.

The official seating capacity for Saturday is 63,386. The total capacity, counting standing room, won’t exceed 74,000, said Bob Burda, the Big 12’s associate commissioner for communications.

StubHub data shows that 72 percent of buyers are from Texas and 13 percent are from Oklahoma.

Texas fans had an eight-hour head start on the secondary market. The Longhorns clinched a spot in the Big 12 Championship Friday afternoon before the Sooners kicked off at West Virginia.
