The press secretary for Oklahoma's Speaker of the House of Representatives shared a tweet on Sunday claiming the media should be treated like a “vipers nest."

Jason Sutton, the press secretary in the office of House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, shared a tweet by Stephen Miller, a Fox News contributor.

Miller’s tweet stated: “Someone just made this point (I don’t remember who), that our garbage media waits until someone accomplishes something great, like a lifelong dream, then drags this stuff out. They’re a vipers [sic] nest. Treat them that way.”

Miller's tweet was in response to news report that University of Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, who was named the Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday, had authored homophobic tweets several years ago.

“I essentially use Twitter as a filing cabinet, which means I retweet a lot of stuff I find interesting to make it easier to find later,” Stutton texted The Oklahoman when asked for comment.

Sutton is one of nine media specialists working in the state Legislature and is one of the highest paid at $85,750, according to legislative staff salary records.

The Oklahoman was unable to reach House leaders for comment.

Sutton shared the tweet from his personal Twitter account, which mentions his job as press secretary in his bio.

Most of Sutton’s twitter activity is retweets, but he has referenced his job as press secretary, including an April tweet when he said, “I have a policy of not responding to national media.”

In May, he tweeted that “I have never lied to the media ... I have often (in the words of former WH Press Sec Mike McCurry) ‘told the truth slowly.’”
