Executive director of Oklahoma Real Estate Commission resigns

The executive director of the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission abruptly resigned Wednesday following a closed-door meeting between state auditors and commission members. The resignation of Executive Director Charla Slabotsky was confirmed Wednesday by Commission Chairman Doug Emde, who declined to elaborate on the reasons Slabotsky is leaving. “It’s a personnel matter, and so we don’t discuss those,” Emde said Wednesday. “All I can say is she offered her resignation and we accepted it today.” Slabotsky, who was paid more than $91,000 a year, could not be reached for comment. Her handwritten resignation was brief and to the point: “I hereby offer my resignation as Executive Director effective December 12, 2018. Charla J. Slabotsky” State Auditor Gary Jones said his agency’s audit of the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission is not yet complete and he could not publicly discuss partial audit findings. Jones said his office was performing its regular audit of the agency when auditors became aware of some “personnel matters” that he thought should be brought to the immediate attention of commission members. Auditors informed commission members of their concerns during a closeddoor session. Commission members then met with Slabotsky, and she tendered her resignation, Jones said. “The audit is not complete, and details probably won’t be out until the latter part of January,” Jones said. Deputy Director Sherry Kueffler will serve as interim director as the commission begins the process of searching for a replacement, Emde said. The Real Estate Commission licenses real estate professionals in the state and enforces licensing laws. Slabotsky had served as executive director of the commission since Feb. 11, 2013. She previously worked as a lobbyist for the Oklahoma Association of Realtors.
