Bomb threats reported in Oklahoma, across U.S.

- FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Dozens of bomb threats made against Oklahoma businesses on Thursday were not considered credible, authorities said.

In Oklahoma City, police reported more than 20 threats were made via email, including one toward a business at Wiley Post Airport. City officials said the airport was searched, nothing was found and operations continued as normal.

Police said that even though the threats did not appear credible, officers were sent to each location to investigate as if the threat were legitimate.

In Edmond, police reported that five of the emailed threats had been received at local businesses by early Thursday afternoon. Officials said they were forwarding all their findings to the FBI, which is investigating the threats made locally and throughout the country.

Businesses, universities and government buildings across the country reported receiving the emailed threats.

Law enforcement agencies dismissed the threats, saying they were meant to cause disruption and compel recipients into sending money.

Some of the emails had the subject line: “Think Twice.” The sender claimed to have had an associate plant a small bomb in the recipient’s building and that the only way to stop him from setting it off was by making an online payment of $20,000 in Bitcoin.
