Most of us have seen or heard of the origin tale of Peter Parker, nerdy high school kid bitten by a scientifically enhanced spider, who becomes the Amazing Spider-Man.

This weekend’s film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces viewers to many more spider-themed heroes, including one Spider-Man who has become very popular in the comics over the past decade.

Miles was introduced in 2011 in the comic book “Ultimate Fallout” #4. The Ultimate line of comics from Marvel was created in 2000 to provide more updated origins and storylines for the Marvel characters. In 2011, writer Brian Michael Bendis shook things up by killing off Peter Parker in the Ultimate universe, making way for a new Spider-Man: the Afro-Latino teenager Miles Morales, created by Bendis with artist Sara Pichelli.

When the Ultimate imprint ended in 2015, Miles made his way into the main Marvel Universe of titles. A new comics title, “Miles Morales: Spider-Man,” launched this week by the team of writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Javier Garron.

With Peter Parker a grown man and a wellestablished hero in the Marvel Universe comics of today, Ahmed told IGN. com that Miles Morales fits well into the original conception of Spider-Man as a hero.

“Spider-Man is, at his core, a teenage hero,” Ahmed said. “In this book, Miles will be that SpiderMan: battling threats against the community and the city rather than the universe, and trying to do so while dealing with grades and bullies, family and botched dates. This is classic Spider-Man, but very much dealing with modern concerns and realities.”
