OSU women fall to UCLA

Kennedy Burke scored 20 points, Michaela Onyenwere added 16 and UCLA defeated Oklahoma State 71-59 on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Vivian Gray led the Cowgirls (7-2) with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Braxtin Miller finished with 13 points, but shot just 3 of 17.

The Bruins (5-5), who shot a season-best 52.5 percent from the field, led 33-31 at halftime and outscored the Cowboys by 13 points in the third quarter to pull away.

Cowboys rout Northern Colorado

Oklahoma State used 10 bonus point wins on Sunday to hammer Northern Colorado 47-0 in Greeley, Colorado. The win was the Cowboys’ first shutout over the Bears since December 2014.

Jacobe Smith at 174 pounds had the Cowboys’ only fall, pinning Sethan Bogulski at 3:33. Kaden Gfeller (149), Andrew Shomers (157), Chandler Rogers (165), Derek White (285) and Daton Fix (133) all had technical falls.

“We did what we hoped to do, come out and put points on the board,” said OSU coach John Smith. “We got them in critical matches that I thought could be competitiv­e. We wrestled tough and scored points at the end of periods, which made a difference in the outcome of the score.”

OSU (5-0) next wrestles in the Reno Tournament of Champions. The tournament begins Thursday in Nevada.

Sooners hold off Mountainee­rs

Oklahoma earned its first wrestling dual win of the season Sunday, beating Appalachia­n State 20-12 in Boone, North Carolina.

Davion Jeffries at 149 pounds had OU’s only bonuspoint victory, beating Matt Zovistoski by an 18-2 technical fall. Christian Moody (125), Dom Demas (141), Justin Thomas (157), Anthony Mantanona (174) and Kayne MacCallum (184) all won by decision.

OU is 4-0 all time against the Mountainee­rs. The Sooners will not return to action until Jan. 4 against West Virginia inside McCasland Field House.
