OKC police officer shoots, kills man with knife
A police officer shot and killed a man holding a knife Sunday night after officers first tried to subdue him with a bean bag shotgun and a Taser, according to an Oklahoma City police spokesman.
Police identified the dead man as Jacob Mohow, 35.
The incident began late Sunday after officers responded to a disturbance at the OnCue, 5900 W Reno Ave. Mohow had a knife, a screwdriver and a lighter, and he was attempting to cut hoses at the gas pumps while acting like he was trying to cut his throat, according to police.
Witnesses said Mohow was chasing people in the parking lot. When officers arrived, Mohow ignored verbal commands from the officers, police Capt. Bo Mathews reported.
Officer Jarred Tipton used a bean bag shotgun and officer Grant Wheeler fired his Taser in attempts to control Mohow, but Mohow continued to charge at the officers, police said.
Sgt. Donald Koger then fired his gun and hit Mohow. Mohow was pronounced dead at the scene.
Records show Mohow served prison time for assault and battery on a police officer, arson and drug offenses.
Koger has been placed on a paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Tipton and Wheeler were not placed on leave, a police spokeswoman said.
Police spokesman Master Sgt. Gary Knight said the officers Sunday night wore body cameras that got video of the shooting. The video will not be released until the district attorney reviews the case.
Police in Oklahoma City have shot 12 people in 2018, killing five of them. No officer has been injured this year.
Most officers involved in shootings this year have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the district attorney's office.
A shooting involving three police officers in November is still being investigated. In that one, three police officers shot and killed an armed robbery suspect in southeast Oklahoma City.
