OSU's Simpson named to Collegiate Baseball preseason All-America team

Oklahoma State senior Colin Simpson, who led the Big 12 in home runs through the 2018 regular season, was named to Collegiate Baseball's preseason All-America third team as an outfielder Monday.

Simpson saw some time in left field last season, but he worked primarily as a catcher for the Cowboys, who finished a game outside of first in the Big 12. As a junior, Simpson hit .280 with a team-high 18 home runs, 51 RBIs and a .578 slugging percentage, earning ABCA/ Rawlings All-Midwest Region first-team recognition as a catcher.

Simpson figures to split his time between the outfield and behind the plate again in 2019, OSU's final season at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium before a move to O'Brate Stadium, which is under construction. The Cowboys' other catchers include Shawnee product Jake Taylor and Stanford graduate transfer Bryce Carter, a product of Cascia Hall in Tulsa.

The Cowboys open the 2019 season at Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 15.
