For the fourth year in a row the Tuttle Tigers are coming back from Kansas City with gold.

Tuttle wrestling took down Liberty High School from Missouri this past weekend to win its fourth-straight Kansas City Stampede championship, a national event that features 40 teams from 10 different states.

“One of the best years we’ve had,” Tuttle coach

Matt Surber said. “Really just a great showing from a lot of our guys.”

Tuttle was without a wrestler at heavyweight and 113 pounds, so needed some top finishes to make up the difference.

The Tigers trailed Liberty by 5.5 points heading into the semifinals, but took the lead heading into the finals after four wrestlers advanced to the final match.

Tuttle scored a team total of 686, beating Liberty by 66.5 points to claim the championship.

Ryder Ramsey won an individual title at 132 pounds, Carson Berryhill won at 195 and Dustin Plott won at 170 while also being named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.

Plott beat two guys ranked in the top 10 in the country in his semifinals and finals victories.

"He was the only weight who had four ranked guys in the field," Surber said. "He's just wrestling really well right now."

Luke Surber placed second while Garrett Steidley and Brady Dearmond finished third.

Millwood receiver picks up Penn State offer

The early national signing day has passed, but things appear to be on the rise for Millwood receiver De’Mariyon Houston.

The four star receiver announced over the weekend that he had received a scholarship offer from Penn State.

Houston is coming off a senior season in which he caught 35 passes for 772 yards and 11 touchdowns while also returning one punt for at touchdown.

Originally committed to Texas in July, Houston announced he was no longer pledged to the Longhorns earlier this month after he sensed the school was no longer interested in him.

Plenty of other schools have shown interest in the speedy receiver, as Houston has scholarship offers from colleges all over the country including Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame and others.

Mustang tournament opens Thursday

Robert Foreman’s first goal as Mustang’s athletic director was to create a holiday basketball tournament that’s special and long-lasting.

And to be better than Tulsa’s Tournament of Champions.

Thursday, Foreman believes he’s accomplished that.

The inaugural Mustang Holiday Classic tips off at 9 a.m. and features a field of three state defending champions and perennial state tournament contenders.

“There was nothing on the West,” Foreman said. “That was my No. 1 goal to rival the Tournament of Champions. I want to not be the Tournament of Champions. I want to beat the Tournament of Champions.”

The girls field includes defending Class 6A champion Owasso, defending Class 2A champion Christian Heritage and three-time defending Class A champion Seiling.

Class A state runner-up Frontier is also joined by Edmond North, Midwest City, Mustang and Pocola.

On the boys side, powers Lawton Eisenhower, Carl Albert, Midwest City and Tulsa Central are joined by Westmoore, Owasso, Muskogee and Mustang.

Each game will be live streamed on YouTube.com. Also, Foreman said the video boards in the arena will broadcast Saturday night’s Orange Bowl between Oklahoma and Alabama.
