Mustang held off Seiling 57-54 on Friday to advance to the championship game of the inaugural Mustang Holiday Classic.

MUSTANG — It's not often a Class 6A school plays the underdog role to a Class A school.

But Mustang coach Kevin Korstjens thinks Seiling is more than just a dominant small school.

"They know how to win," Korstjens said. "And they have a championship caliber and experience that makes them extra tough."

So as Mustang built and early 10-point lead in the first half behind nine points apiece from freshman Jaki Rollins and senior Ellise Foreman, Korstjens said nobody for Mustang felt comfortable.

"We knew they'd make their run," he said. "I was just proud of our team for being able to make some plays down the stretch."

Despite a late rally, Class 6A No. 16-ranked Mustang held on to beat Class A No. 1 Seiling 57-54 to advance to the championship game of the inaugural Mustang Holiday Classic.

Rollins led the way for Mustang, finishing with 17 points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Cur'Tiera Haywood added 16 points, 11 of which came after halftime. For Seiling, the loss comes exactly one year since its last setback, a 49-46 decision to Class 6A Owasso.

Karly Gore led the way for Seiling on Thursday with 19 points and eight rebounds, while sister Macy Gore added 16 points and eight rebounds.
