In the midst of chaos,

Myles Jeffries just tried to keep his head.

The final seconds of Class 3A No. 2-ranked Millwood’s 55-53 victory against Class 5A No. 7 Carl Albert was a good lesson in staying calm under pressure.

Millwood was leading by four points with less than a minute to play when Carl Albert guard Dadrion

Taylor jumped the passing lane, racing up the court for an easy layup to cut the Falcons’ lead to two with 31 seconds to play.

On its next possession, Millwood turned it over against as Carl Albert’s

Maurice Cudjo came up with a steal, got an easy layup on the other end to tie the game at 53-53.

Millwood kept its composure on its final possession as Isaiah Williams raced up the floor and found Jeffries standing in the corner.

Jeffries took one dribble inside and pulled up from about 15-feet out, burying the 2-pointer for the Millwood win.

“That shot was huge,” Millwood coach Mike Jeffries said. “Myles just got the ball, made a really good move and got in his sweet spot and knocked it down.”

After trailing at half 24-17, Jeffries said the second-half shooting of senior guard Leo Mackie got Millwood back in the game.

Mackie came of the bench for the Falcons to lead them in scoring with 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.

“We could tell he was in that zone,” Jeffries said. “When he’s in that zone, you leave him alone and just tell him to shoot.”

Chris Veales led Carl Albert in scoring with 17 points. Taylor added 12 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Titans.

Stat line of the night

Midwest City guard JD Ray continues a hot start to his senior season. Midwest City beat Lawton Eisenhower 89-76 as Ray poured in 35 points while adding 10 assists and five steals.

No. 1 Edmond Santa Fe tops Moore

No. 1-ranked Edmond Santa Fe is still undefeated, even if Tuesday’s 58-44 win over unranked Moore was up and down.

Edmond Santa Fe (9-0) led by double digits most of the way, only to allow the Lions (2-7) to get within nine in the final minutes. But Santa Fe was too much, rolling off a few layups and dunks in the final minute to seal the game, the team’s first since Dec. 20.

Ben Smith led the way with 15 points, and Kristian

Khoury added 11.
