OKC district seeks input on building use
Oklahoma City Public Schools is asking the public to recommend new uses for school buildings that will be closed as part of the district's restructuring project.
A new survey launched Thursday gives families, staff and the community as many as seven options for each of the 14 schools that will be closed under three plans being considered by Superintendent Sean McDaniel.
Another eight schools in the survey could be closed depending on the plan McDaniel recommends to the school board Feb. 19.
Relocation of existing charter schools is one survey option. Other options include OKCPS Student Welcome/ Enrollment Center; Community Health Center; Afterschool Program/Community Center; Early Childhood Center (birth to 3 years); and South (district nontraditional program).
“Our P2G project holds as a core value that all OKCPS facilities should be used for a positive community purpose, even when they are no longer used as schools,” McDaniel said in a statement.
“We are grateful for the interest we have already seen from a variety of partners in the use of our repurposed buildings, and we continue to receive additional inquiries daily.
“No decisions on placement have been made, and the community's input is essential as we begin to craft our Final Path and determine a specific use for each of these properties.”
The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Monday.
The board will vote on the recommendation March 4.
