Mercy opens pop-up clinics for flu care

Mercy is opening several pop-up clinics to treat Oklahomans with flu-like symptoms.

Patients who may have the flu can receive care without an appointmen­t at any of the four clinics, located in Ada, Ardmore, Edmond and Oklahoma City. They are open to any walk-in patients with flu-like symptoms, not just current Mercy patients.

Flu symptoms can include: A fever or feeling feverish or the chills, a cough, a sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea.

The clinics are located at:

• Edmond: Mercy Clinic Primary Care, 1919 E. Memorial Road. Open noon to 8 p.m. weekdays.

• Oklahoma City: Mercy Clinic Primary Care, 8325 Northwest Expressway. Open noon to 8 p.m. weekdays.

• Ada: Mercy Clinic Primary Care, 201 N. Monte Vista, Suite A. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

• Ardmore: Mercy Clinic Primary Care, 1020 N. Commerce St. Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends.

Mercy plans to keep the clinics open as long as needed, according to a news release from the health system.

The state Health Department has reported 24 flu-associated deaths in Oklahoma since Sept. 1.

To help prevent against the flu, health officials encourage people to wash their hands frequently or use hand sanitizers, cover their mouth and nose when sneezing, clean surfaces regularly and wear a mask in health care facilities.

Those who haven't had the flu can still get a flu shot.
