Del City ready for regionals

Del City coach Wes Ruth believes success builds confidence.

The Del City wrestling team is heading to Westmoore this weekend to compete in the Class 6A West Regionals.

“Our mood is really good,” Ruth said. “We feel upbeat and ready to go.”

Part of the reason Ruth and Del City feel excited is how the Eagles did last year in the postseason. Del City placed sixth in Class 5A regionals and had six state qualifiers and a state champ in 106-pounder Manny Rogers.

Now in 6A, Del City is coming off a win against rival Midwest City and a strong showing at the Glenpool tournament. Ruth said Rogers, now wrestling at 113 pounds, Tyrone Denton at 170 pounds and Trent Owens at 195 pounds are all wrestling well right now.

“I think we really fed off that success from last year,” he said. “Now we are just trying to peak at the right time again.”

Class 6A West Regional at Westmoore High School: Choctaw, Deer Creek, Del City, Edmond Memorial, Lawton, Midwest City, Moore, Mustang, Norman North, Putnam City, Putnam City West, Southmoore, Stillwater, U.S. Grant, Westmoore, Yukon.

Class 4A West Regional at Newcastle High School: Anadarko, Blanchard, Cache, Chickasha, Clinton, Elgin, Elk City, Harrah, Heritage Hall, Madill, McLoud, Newcastle, Pauls Valley, Tecumseh, Tuttle, Weatherfor­d

NFHS Foundation equips 9 Oklahoma schools with AEDs

Nine Oklahoma schools recently received Automated External Defibrilla­tors as part of an effort by the National Federation of State High School Associatio­ns to provide resources for the ongoing healthy and safety in sports and activities.

ASTEC Charter, Butner, Colcord, Elmore CityPernel­l, Harding Fine Arts, Hinton, New Lima, Paoli and Wewoka all received AEDs.

They were provided by the NFHS through the NFHS Foundation, which awarded 600 AEDs across the nation.

Each school also received a rescue kit, alarmed wall cabinet and a carrying case for transporta­tion of the AED. Each AED also has a 2-inch adult pad and pediatric pad for individual­s weighing 55 pounds or less.

Three tutorial videos were also provided.
