FASHION SPRINGS AHEAD

- By Linda Miller

Store owners and buyers share what they're excited to show off when the weather warms

Let the countdown begin. Spring is still a few weeks away, but time's almost up for boots, coats and sweaters. In their place will be sandals, net and mesh details, shorts (biker styles if you're willing), polka dots, neutral and sorbet colors, bold yellow and tropical themes.

Those in the fashion business have been analyzing spring trends since last September when designers showed their collections on runways in New York, London, Milan, Paris and in following weeks at apparel markets throughout the U.S.

It's too early to embrace spring's offerings, but it's always fun to anticipate a new season and what it brings. With that in mind, store owners and buyers share what they're excited to show off when the weather warms.

Katherine Buxton, owner of Gretta Sloane: We're really looking forward to dresses. We always love dresses and a lot of color. At the same time, there's a neutral head-to-toe thing going on that we've always loved but feel like it's having a resurgence in spring. And interesting prints. Kind of quirky and whimsical and not too serious like a ladylike printed dress that reads more fashion forward. Think a more traditional silk dress worn with combat boots or a ripped leather jacket, that idea of taking something ladylike and making it more modern.

Betsy King, owner of Betsy King A Shoe Boutique: I'm so ready for spring. The warmer weather brings new color palettes in everything from bright highlighter colors to soft muted pastels and corals. One of my faves coming is the Florian by Via Spiga in mango patent. She's fun and sassy.

Cindi Shelby, director of stylists, Worth New York: Can't wait to start wearing spring clothes. Loving many of the trends and colors, especially polka dots, rainbow bright colors, as well as the more sophisticated neutral palettes and white on white. There are many innovative fabrics, such as paper-thin leather, intricate mesh, lace overlays, appliques and incredibly lightweight tweeds. Excited for fun sandals and fresh pedicures. Bring on the warm weather.
