Day care under investigation in baby's death

-

Staff reports WARR ACRES — A 6-month-old boy who was taken from a day care and hospitalized last week has died and police are investigating. Police went to a home day care at 7204 N Norman Road on Feb. 21 where the baby was having difficulty breathing, police Maj. John Gray said. The boy, Liam Farrar, died at OU Medical Center on Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed. The state medical examiner's office will determine a cause of death. Gray said the death remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made. According to a Warr Acres police report, the day care operator, Kelly Knipfer, told a detective that Liam had been dropped off about 8:45 a.m., and an hour later started having trouble breathing and went limp. She told police she started cardiopulmonary resuscitation and another day care worker called 911. Knipfer told police Liam had been fussy, and had not had anything to eat or drink at the day care that morning. There were nine other children at the day care, according to the report. A woman who works at the day care, Makayla Lanoy of Moore, said Wednesday she did not have any comment on the death. Tony Coleman, an Oklahoma City attorney representing Liam's parents, Alyssa and Daniel Farrar of Piedmont, said the parents did not want to comment Wednesday. “Right now, as you can imagine, they are quite devastated and request their privacy,” Coleman said. “At the appropriate time, we will be forthcoming. It's still very much an ongoing investigation.”
