FINCH FACING MORE LEGAL TROUBLES

Former Sooner running back Roy Finch has been arrested again and accused of domestic abuse and kidnapping

Despite a highly publicized arrest last April, former Sooner running back Roy Finch had hoped for a return to the Canadian Football League where he was the special teams player of the year in 2017. And the Calgary Stampeders hoped to get him back. “We haven't forgotten about Roy,” the head coach told a Calgary newspaper last month. Finch went into a treatment program after being arrested in Edmond last year and a dashcam video of his confrontation with police officers was released to the media. “I am focusing on my mental, physical and spiritual health,” he said in a news release in May. “I ... look forward to returning to my Calgary family ... if granted the opportunity.” Finch was arrested again, though, this month after a girlfriend accused him of punching her two to three times and refusing to let her leave his Oklahoma City motel room for 20 to 30 minutes Jan. 2. He was charged Jan. 29 in Oklahoma County District Court with kidnapping and domestic abuse. He denies the new accusations. After the incident last year, Finch was charged in Oklahoma County District Court with assault and battery upon a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. That case is still pending. He is accused of pushing a police officer who found him passed out in a vehicle that reeked of marijuana. “Roy's had some tough issues in his life that we've been working on,” his defense attorney, Gary Higginbotham, said Wednesday. Finch is 27. He played for the University of Oklahoma four years, 2010-2013. He played in NFL preseason games in 2014 for the New England Patriots and had a brief stint that year in the CFL with the Ottawa Redblacks. He returned to the CFL in 2016 with the Stampeders where he became a key contributor returning punts, kickoffs and missed field goals. He had three touchdowns on punt returns in 2017.
