Sooners win two in tournament

Oklahoma softball opened its home schedule with back-to-back wins in the Courtyard Marriott Tournament on Friday, but a pair of Saturday games were canceled due to the cold. Weekend record: 2-0 Overall record: 15-2

Lopez, Juarez lead in circle

The Sooners gave up one run over 12 innings in wins against ranked Oregon State and Louisiana teams. Junior Mariah Lopez led in a shutout victory against Oregon State. She struck out eight in six innings. Florida Internatio­nal transfer Shannon Saile picked up her first Sooner save in the 3-0 win. Junior left-hander Giselle Juarez gave up one run over five innings in OU's 9-1 run-rule win against Louisiana. The transfer from Arizona State is 6-0 with a 2.06 ERA.

400 club

Senior infielders Shay Knighten and Sydney Romero notched multi-hit games over the weekend as they continue to lead the Sooners in hitting. Knighten's .471 batting average tops the team, followed by Romero at .429. Eight Sooners are hitting north of .340 through 17 games.

OU faces McNeese State (8-12) at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Norman. The game will be streamed on soonerspor­ts.tv. The Sooners will host a weekend tournament with Friday, Saturday and Sunday games against Northweste­rn, Drake and Grand Canyon. Tulsa willalso participat­e in the event. OU will open play at 6 p.m. Friday against Northweste­rn.
