STILLWATER — In a week weather cost Oklahoma State one chance to play and forced the Cowboys to play two games in one day, the OSU baseball team suffered its first series loss of 2019. Week record: 1-2 Overall record: 6-4 The week ahead: Wednesday vs. Wichita State, Friday-Sunday in Dodgertown Classic (at USC, at UCLA and vs. Michigan in Dodger Stadium) Double play Because of inclement weather, OSU's series against Iowa included a doubleheader Friday. After blowing a onerun lead in the eighth inning of the opening contest, the Cowboys rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the ninth. Pinch-runner Noah Sifrit was thrown out at home on a Cade Cabbiness double, but Cabbiness scored to tie the game on Andrew Navigato's double. Freshman Hueston Morrill completed the 5-4 comeback victory with a walk-off infield single, beating out a grounder as Navigato scored from second. That final score flipped in the nightcap. OSU led 4-2 after a three-run third, but the Cowboys didn't score again. The Hawkeyes tied the game in the fourth with Austin Martin's two-run home run off Logan Gragg, who has a 12.96 ERA through his three starts. Iowa scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the eighth. Rolling Stone Despite being OSU's third weekend starter, redshirt freshman lefthander Mitchell Stone has been the Cowboys' best arm thus far. In Saturday's series finale, Stone went seven innings, allowing only an unearned run on two Iowa hits. The Deer Creek product, who missed most of last season with a broken foot, has 1.10 ERA in 16 1/3 innings. The Cowboys scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to put Stone in position for a win. But Jake Lyons, a Weatherford Junior College product who took the mound with a 2.00 ERA, gave up single runs in the eighth and ninth innings as the Cowboys dropped the series finale and suffered their first series loss. Bats go cold With chilly weather abound, OSU hit .188 in the weekend series, with Morrill and Cabbiness the only Cowboys to record more than two hits. Six of OSU's 16 hits were doubles, but none of those came in Saturday's finale, and no Cowboys homered over the weekend. OSU's 5.9 runs per game are the second fewest in the Big 12.
