Houston men top Cincinnati for outright AAC championsh­ip

CINCINNATI — Corey Davis Jr. scored a career-high 31 points Sunday, and No. 12-ranked Houston dominated the second half for an 85-69 victory over No. 20 Cincinnati that clinched the American Athletic Conference's regular-season title outright. The Cougars knocked off the defending champs and earned their first league title since 1992 in the Southwest Conference. Their 29 regularsea­son wins are a school record. NO. 21 WISCONSIN 73, OHIO STATE 67, OT: Khalil Iverson had a career-high 22 points and 14 rebounds as Wisconsin survived Ohio State's second-half rally. Wisconsin led by as many as 23 points early in the second half. But Ohio State (18-13, 8-12) outscored the Badgers 27-5 over the last seven minutes of regulation to force overtime. NO. 22 WOFFORD 81, ETSU 72: Fletcher Magee made six 3-pointers and scored 26 points, Cameron Jackson added 20 points and seven rebounds, and Wofford beat East Tennessee State to advance to the Southern Conference championsh­ip game. WOMEN NO. 2 UCONN 81, SOUTH FLORIDA 45: Megan Walker scored 24 points and Napheesa Collier added 23 to lead UConn past South Florida and move Huskies into their sixth straight American Athletic Conference championsh­ip game. Crystal Dangerfiel­d added 11 points and Christyn Williams chipped in 10 for UConn, which has never lost to an AAC opponent and has won 30 games for a 14th consecutiv­e season. NO. 4 NOTRE DAME 99, NO. 3 LOUISVILLE 79: Jessica Shepard had a season-high 30 points and 13 rebounds, and Notre Dame claimed its fifth Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament title in six years by routing Louisville. NO. 5 MISSISSIPP­I STATE 101, ARKANSAS 70: Teaira McCowan had 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Mississipp­i State pounded Arkansas to win its first Southeaste­rn Conference Tournament championsh­ip. The Bulldogs and McCowan scored the most points ever in an SEC Tournament title game — and ended their own 0-4 mark when reaching the event finals. NO. 10 IOWA 90, NO. 8 MARYLAND 76: Megan Gustafson scored 26 points in the first half and finished with 45 to lead Iowa past Maryland for its first Big Ten Tournament title since 2001. Gustafson's point total was the second-most in tourney history, trailing only her 48-point performanc­e in a quarterfin­al loss to Minnesota last year. NO. 17 MARQUETTE 88, ST. JOHN'S 57: Natisha Hiedeman, the Big East Player of the Year, scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Marquette opened the conference tournament by beating ninth-seeded St. John's.
