STILLWATER — Former OSU quarterback Taylor Cornelius' solid showing at Pro Day spanned most everything he did, from running and jumping to throwing. Beginning with his 9-foot-11 broad jump and 38-inch vertical leap, Cornelius caught on-lookers' eyes early. His vertical was 3.5 inches better than any quarterback at the NFL Combine. Compared to quarterbacks at the combine, Cornelius' broad jump would have ranked third, his three-cone drill time of 7.06 seconds would have been fourth, his 4.70-second 40-time would have been sixth and his 4.33-second 20-yard shuttle would have been eighth. Although quarterbacks did not participate in the 60-yard shuttle at the combine, Cornelius finished the drill in 11.45 seconds, which would have ranked eighth among all players who ran it at the combine. “One scout told me I was `sneaky athletic,' whatever that means,” Cornelius said with a chuckle. “That was my first time hitting 38 inches. I'd been close to that a couple times, but it was great to max out today. “I think it shows my athleticism. That's something a lot of people didn't know that I had. I want to prove everything that I can.” Cornelius completed 32 of 41 passes. He was in tune with receiver Tyron Johnson and Cowboy back Britton Abbott throughout the exhibition. Most of his misconnections were with former Cowboy Josh Stewart, who was a late addition to the event and appeared to be a step slower than he was when he starred for OSU in 2014. “We felt like we needed another guy to finish the script. His name came up, and he did a good job today,” Cornelius said of Stewart, who is playing for the Oklahoma Flying Aces, a Champions Indoor Football League team in Enid. “Josh had just a few minutes to get prepared for what we were about to do. If we had a couple practices together, I'm sure it would've been perfect.”

Brailford shows off lateral movement

Though he had a couple of frustrating moments trying to keep his footing and properly get through the three-cone drill, defensive end/linebacker Jordan Brailford was mostly pleased with his performance on Tuesday. Brailford posted good numbers in a few categories, like the 40-yard dash (4.65 seconds) at the combine, and chose to let those numbers stand. But he did other drills that displayed his lateral quickness, which is important considering that he has been in contact with multiple teams that run a 3-4 defense and would be looking to use him as an outside linebacker. “There was some good. There was some bad, but you've just got to take the wins.,” Brailford said of Tuesday's workout. “I think I've proven that I can move and that I'm versatile. We'll see how teams view me in the coming weeks.”

Extra points

Jarrell Owens' vertical leap of 39 inches would have been tied for the second-best at the NFL Combine among defensive ends and edge rushers. … Running back Justice Hill sat out Tuesday while the hamstring he injured at the combine continues to heal.
