West Virginia stuns Texas Tech at Big 12 Tournament,

- Wire reports

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Baylor has had Iowa State's number in recent years. The Bears entered the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals with a three-game winning streak in the series, and Cyclones coach Steve Prohm owned fewer victories over Baylor than any other Big 12 basketball team in his four seasons.

But when Iowa State plays, especially shoots, like it did on Thursday at Sprint Center, the opponent doesn't matter.

The fifth-seeded Cyclones ran away from No. 4 seed Baylor 83-66 and will meet top-seeded Kansas State on Friday at 6 p.m. in a semifinal.

Iowa State and Kansas State split the regular-season series with each winning on the road.

Iowa State (21-11) leads the Big 12 in scoring and shooting and played to their strengths against the Bears. They hit 52 percent from beyond the arc (13 of 25).

NO. 15 KANSAS STATE 70, TCU 61: Xavier Snead

scored 19 points, none bigger than a 3-pointer as the shot clock sounded in the final minute, and Kansas State rallied from a slow start to beat TCU Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals. Barry Brown added 12 points,

Kamau Stokes had 11 and Makol Mawien had 10 for the tournament's top seed.

Kansas State (25-7) played without forward Dean Wade, who is sidelined once again with a foot injury. The senior watched the game from the sideline with a boot on his right foot. Desmond Bane had 16 points for the Horned Frogs (20-13).

WEST VIRGINIA 79,

NO. 7 TEXAS TECH 74: Emmitt Mathews

scored a career-high 28 points as 10th-seeded West Virginia upset No. 7 Texas Tech. Jarrett Culver scored 26 points, Tariq Owens had 14, and Matt Mooney had 12 for Texas Tech (26-6).

Matthews hit a corner 3 to give West Virginia (14-19) a 16-point lead with nine minutes to go, but Texas Tech scored 16 of the next 18 to get within four. The Red Raiders took a 69-68 lead on a basket by Culver, their first lead since it was 7-5. But the Mountaineers scored seven of the next nine to regain the lead, 75-71. Culver missed a 3 with 20 seconds left and Tech trailing 77-74, and Matthews sealed the victory with two free throws.
