OKC-area golfers to watch
Here are six high school golfers from the Oklahoma City area to watch this spring:
BOYS
Jaxon Dowell, Jr., Oklahoma Christian School:
Last spring's Class 3A individual state champion won the title by shooting 10-under par, which also helped OCS win the team title. The Oklahoman's All-City Golfer of the Year, Dowell committed to Oklahoma.
Drew Goodman, So., Christian Heritage Academy:
Underclassmen dominating is a theme this spring, and Goodman might be the poster boy. He committed to OU in January, just a few months after winning the AJGA's Under Armour/Jordan Spieth Championship. He was also second in Class 3A last May.
William McDonald, Sr., Heritage Hall:
An Arkansas signee, McDonald finished second in Class 4A after a disappointing Day 2 finish, but a strong summer has him primed to make a run at the championship. GIRLS
Maddi Kamas, So., Kingfisher:
Kamas had breakout spring in 2018 as a freshman, winning four tournaments and finishing second three times. She's also motivated to prove she can do more after rain washed out her final round of state.
Jade McCurdy, Sr., Purcell:
McCurdy is now the Dragons' star. Behind Tulsa signee
ShaeBug Scarberry
last year, McCurdy was impressive. She finished second in state, one stroke behind Scarberry.
Lilly Whitley, So., Edmond Memorial:
Another breakout star last spring, Whitley won five tournaments despite her age and experience. She is motivated to be even better this spring after suffering what she deemed a disappointing state tournament with a 14th-place finish.
