Pivot Project plans a boutique hotel in Midtown
Pivot Project, which is wrapping up redevelopment of a brewery, food hall and offices in Midtown, is set to start a second phase with construction of a six-story boutique hotel with a coffee shop, bar and retail.
Plans submitted with the Oklahoma City Planning Department show the building will front the northeast corner of NW 11 and Hudson Avenue, just west of the Elk Valley Brewery, future Hudson Street Market and offices for Resolution Legal Group.
David Wanzer, a partner in Pivot Project, declined to identify the hotel operator but said construction is expected to start next year with an opening in 2021.
“It's a national boutique hotel chain,” Wanzer said. “It will be a very neighborhood-focused hotel, and it ties into what we're doing with the block. We always thought it would be a great site for a hotel and a way to add some rooms to Midtown. The streetcar stops at the front door.”
The hotel will feature 110 rooms and 8,500 square feet of retail. Designs show a coffee shop will adjoin the hotel entrance facing Hudson Avenue, extending a frontage that includes the brewery and future food market.
The only section of the block remaining to be addressed
is the former Foodies Diner, 1220 N Hudson Ave., which was built in 1963 and is one of the city's last surviving Valentine diners. The diner has been empty for six years and was gutted as part of an abandoned effort to turn it into a bar. Pivot Project last year obtained a long-term lease for the building, giving them control of the entire block.
“We still don't know who we are putting in there,” Wanzer said. “It's on our back-burner. But something will happen with the diner before the hotel is done.”
