MUSTANG — Robert Crout will be remembered for his ability, humility and ethics as a residential land developer, and for a steady, compassionate hand as president of Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association in 2013.

Crout, 69, was killed and his wife, Kathy, seriously injured July 17 in a three-car crash near Texline, Texas. According to KFDA- TV in Amarillo,

Texas, the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving, stopped in a congested construction

zone on U.S. 87, was struck by a 2014 Dodge Durango driven by a woman from Hutto, Texas, causing it to ram a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Jason Booth, 44, of Piedmont.

Boot hand his pass enger, Melissa Booth, 41, were treated at the scene. Kathy Crout was admitted to a hospital in Dalhart, Texas, but is now recovering at home. The Texas woman was treated at a hospital and released.

Crout “was a valuable asset to our organization in a period of transition for our association,” said Denise Patterson, president of Central Oklahoma Home Builders .“Without Robert, much of the area we call

home simply wouldn't be the same. ... His legacy will live on through the communities he helped to pioneer.”

He was “a stand- up guy,” said his friend, south Oklahoma City developer P.B. Odom III. “He lived by the Golden Rule: to treat others as you would have them treat you. While I never had the opportunity to do business with Robert, I would not have hesitated — because his moral and ethical values were above approach.”

Crout was a“cl assic gentleman ,” said Jeff Click, of Jeff Click Design-Build. “He was exceptionally capable, but remarkably humble. When it came to accomplishing his objectives, he knew how to move the ball down the field, but it was never his style to spike it in the end zone. He loved his work, he loved his industry and he did so because he loved people.”

Crout's funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at First Baptist Church, 928 N Mustang Road, in Mustang, with burial in Mustang Cemetery, under direction of McNeil's Funeral Service.
