- Paula Burkes, Business writer

Fernanda Hagen is an industrial coordinator for workforce and economic development at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. What is Francis Tuttle's diversity and language training?

Francis Tuttle's Spanish for the Workplace is a business communications course designed to bridge gaps in language and cultural understanding that often exist in today's workplace. A primary focus of the training is equipping participants with industry-specific language skills to ease cross-lingual communication in the workplace. In addition to technical communication skills, the training addresses cross-cultural issues to help reduce common misunderstandings in the workplace. Who benefits from the training?

With the increasing diversity of today's workplace, many businesses can benefit from this training. The curriculum is adaptable and industryspecific. We've worked with employers from a broad range of industries including public safety, manufacturing, energy and health care. The benefits of this training permeate nearly every layer of their business, positively affecting employee competency, productivity, satisfaction and loyalty. What would the process look like for a business?

The training is customized for your business, so we would first assess your specific needs as well as the starting point of participating employees. We then consider their positions and responsibilities and build a customized program around those unique factors. The program differs based on each client, industry and the specific objectives they hope to accomplish through the training. Some businesses opt for short-term training options, while others choose more in-depth approaches. How do you know what training your company needs?

Instructors work closely with each client to identify the training option that best suits their needs. Our courses include Technical Spanish and English, Command Spanish and Spanish in the Workplace. The focus of each course differs, with some addressing general language proficiency and others addressing job-specific vocabulary. Clients are matched with instructors who are well-versed in the information, processes and techniques involved in the field of focus, enabling them to customize a training plan for each client.
