Jill Ellis steps down as women's national team coach Longtime KU broadcaste­r dies at 95

National team coach Jill Ellis is stepping down after leading the United States to back-to-back Women's World Cup titles.

Ellis has been coach of the team since 2014 and has led it to eight overall tournament titles, including victories at the World Cup in 2015 in Canada and earlier this month in France.

She will remain with the team for a World Cup victory tour, which kicks off Saturday with a match against Ireland at the Rose Bowl. Following the conclusion of the five-match tour in October, she will serve as a U.S. Soccer ambassador.

Ellis' contract was set to expire following this year's World Cup with a mutual option to extend it through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. U.S. Soccer will begin the search for a new coach after a general manager for the women's national team is named.

Ex-OSU pitcher Hatch traded from Cubs to Blue Jays

The Chicago Cubs traded former Oklahoma State pitcher Thomas Hatch to the Toronto Blue Jays for right-hander David Phelps.

As part of the trade announced Tuesday, the Blue Jays agreed to send cash to Chicago to offset some of P helps' contract, which includes a $ 2.5 million base salary for this year, a $1 million club option for 2020 and numerous performanc­e bonuses.

Hatch, 2 4, was 4- 1 0 with a 4.59 ERA this season for Double-A Tennessee. Selected by Chicago in the third round of the 2016 amateur draft, the right-hander is 17-27 with a 4.10 ERA in 73 starts over three minor league seasons.

Max Falkenstie­n, t he affable and silver-tongued "Voice of the Jayhawks" who brought Kansas football and basketball into the homes of fans for six decades, died Monday. He was 95.

The school announced his death in a statement. No cause was given.
