A woman who left her 5-year-old grandson in a hot car while she gambled for six hours has pleaded guilty to a murder charge. Alanna Jean Orr, 50, of Oklahoma City, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony murder in the second degree by child neglect in Indian Country.

Federal grand jurors alleged in an indictment that Orr caused the death of Maddox Ryan D ur bin on June 21, 2018, by “willfully failing to provide adequate shelter and supervision while she was responsible for his health, safety and welfare.”

According to surveillance video, Orr, who was caring for the boy, arrived at the Kickapoo Casino in Harrah at 1:23 p.m. and left at 7:28 p.m., federal prosecutors said. The high temperature in Harrah that day was 90 degrees.

Orr admitted in court papers to causing her grandson's death by leaving him unattended on a hot afternoon in the back seat of her car with no air conditioning.

Approximately 15 minutes after leaving the casino, Orr called 911 and reported her grandson had choked and was not breathing. Harrah police officers attempted to resuscitate the boy but found that rigor mortis had already begun, prosecutors said. Rigor mortis is a stiffening of the muscles after death.

The crime is subject to federal jurisdiction because the defendant and victim are Indians and the offense took place on tribal trust land, according to the U.S. Attorney' s office in Oklahoma City. Orr f aces a maximum potential penalty of life in prison and a fine of $250,000 when she is sentenced.
