FIGHTING CHANCE

The Reds and Pirates got into another brawl, and several noteworthy trades took place before the deadline

- Wire reports

Major League Baseball is reviewing video of the latest fight between the Pirates and Reds, with Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle expecting suspensions on both sides.

Reds manager David Bell faces a significant suspension for running onto the field and going after Hurdle during the ninth inning of Pittsburgh's 11-4 win Tuesday night. Bell already had been ejected from the game.

Hurdle spoke with Chief Baseball Officer Joe Torre on Wednesday before an afternoon game against the Reds that concludes their raucous series. Hurdle said MLB was reviewing video of the numerous confrontations during the game, which turned into a fight in the ninth when Reds reliever Amir Garrett charged the Pittsburgh dugout.

Four from each team were ejected.

“Yeah, I anticipate suspensions, and seeing some of the things that our guys were involved with, there definitely could be ramifications coming our way as well,” Hurdle said.

The NL Central rivals have a history of run-ins that crept into this season when Derek Diet rich admired his home run at P NC Park in April, prompting a fracas.

Tempers flared again Tuesday night in the eighth inning when Keone Kela threw up-and-in to Dietrich. Joey Votto yelled into the Pirates dugout between innings, taking exception to the pitch.

Jared Hughes hit Starling Marte with his first pitch in the ninth, bringing things to a boil. Garrett later traded words from the mound with Pittsburgh's Trevor Williams, who was in the dugout. Garrett ran to t he dugout and started swinging as the benches emptied.

Astros get Greinke in trade with D-backs

The Houston As tr os acquired ace Zack Greinke on Wednesday, adding another All-Star to a formidable rotation that already included Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

The AL West leaders got Greinke in a startling trade with Arizona for four minor leaguers, a deal in which the Diamondbacks agreed to pay the Astros $26 million to cover much of the roughly $76 million the pitcher is due.

Indians trade Bauer to Reds, land Puig in 3-team deal

The Cleveland Indians bulked up for the playoff race by trading temperamental starter Trevor Bauer to Cincinnati in a three-team deal they hope helps them catch the Minnesota Twins.

Cleveland, which trails the AL Central by three games, sent Bauer to the Reds for slug ger Yasiel Puig and left-hander Scott Moss. The Indians also acquired outfielder Franmil Reyes, lefty Logan Allen and in field prospect Victor Nova from San Diego. The Padres acquired outfielder Taylor Trammel from the Reds.

Bauer' s exit comes three days after the quirky right-hand er angrily threw a ball from the behind mound over the center-field wall in Kansas City.

Other notable trades

• With about a minute to spare, Nicholas Castellanos was traded from the last-place Tigers to the contending Cubs. The Tigers sent Castellanos to Chicago for two minor league pitchers in a deal that gives the Cubs a powerful bat against left-handed pitching. The 27-year-old Castellanos has played third base and in the outfield during his career. • The Diamondbacks acquired right-hander Mike Leake for minor league infielder Jose Caballero. Arizona agreed to pay Seattle nearly $19 million to cover most of the just over $25 million Leake is owed in his $80 million, fiveyear contract, which runs through 2020.

• Atlanta pulled off a couple of deals, picking up closer Shane Green from the Tigers and former closer Mark Melancon from the Giants. The acquisitions by the first-place Braves came after Tuesday's trade that brought another reliever, Chris Martin of the Texas Rangers.
