How the trade deadline impacted OKC Dodgers

Major League Baseball' s lone trade deadline has come and gone.

For the Oklahoma City Dodgers, it was as low day, but there was still some impact to the club. Star prospects Gavin Lux, Dustin May, DJ Peters and Keibert Ruiz all stayed put as the Dodgerd acquired Jedd Gyorko and Adam Kolarek in separate deals.

But there were a few OKC veterans moved.

Here is how the trade deadline impacted OKC:

Let the kids play

As mentioned above, the star prospects are still in OKC.

That' s great news locally for fans. Seriously, go check out Lux, May, Peters and Ruiz. They fall in line with stars Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger and Walker Buehler for prospects to spend time in OKC.

But there is possibly a downside to the quartet remaining in OKC: no splashy trade for a big reliever.

Multiple reports had the Dodgers linked to talks with Pittsburgh for star left- handed closer Felipe Vazquez, but the asking price was too steep f or the Dodgers. Pittsburgh reportedly wanted either Lux or May and Ruiz among others, a worthy ask for a reliever who can be under contract until 2023.

Still, the Dodgers balked, making minor moves to improve depth for the National League's top team. The past three years, they've made big moves but still fell short in the playoffs or World Series. Time will tell if not making a big move this time paid off in October.

So long, Brock

Less than 24 hours after starting for OKC in Salt Lake, right-hander Brock Stewart found a new home. Stewart was claimed off waivers by Toronto and assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

The 27-year-old had an up-and-down ride with the Dodgers.

He quickly rose to the big leagues in 2016 after starting in Class-A Rancho Cu ca mon ga. From there, he never settled in Los Angeles or OKC. He was optioned to OKC 17 times and promoted to L.A. 16 times.

This season, he struggled to a 5-7 record with a 7.34 ERA in 17 appearances for OKC, including 16 starts.

Rocky road

Catcher Rocky Gal e was r ecently r emoved from the 40-man roster a nd s e nt t o Double- A Tulsa to receive consistent playing ti me with OKC a ddi ng Rui z a nd Austin Barnes, who was optioned from L.A.

There was simply no room for the 31-year-old Gale, who was struggling at the plate with a .644 on-base-plus-slugging percentage.

He'll get a chance to rebound in a new organization. The Dodgers t r aded Gale t o Tampa Bay for cash considerations, according to The Athletic.
