Teen charged in sexual assault at group home

A 15- year-old living in a group home for boys is accused of raping his roommate, the second alleged sexual assault to occur at a youth facility in less than a month.

The boy was charged Thursday in Oklahoma County District Court with one count of first-degree rape. He was charged as a youthful offender.

Prosecutor­s al l ege he assaulted the boy about 11 p.m. on July 24 at a Speck Homes for Boys facility in the 7100 block of Miramar Boulevard that contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

A supervisor reported the alleged assault to police, according to a court affidavit. The boy, who is 15, and a roommate who witnessed the incident told police he “forcibly pulled (the boy) off his bed” and assaulted him, the affidavit stated.

A similar assault took place June 29, at a Speck Homes facility for youth with problemati­c sexual behavior issues in the 400 block of NE 14. An 18-year-old is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old in a corner of the dining room, police reported in a court affidavit.

Justin Me f ford was charged July 8 in Oklahoma County District Court with one count of seconddegr­ee rape and one count of forcible oral sodomy. Mefford approached the boy in the dining room and asked him to have sex, police reported in the affidavit.

When the boy said no, Mefford “continued to ask him repeatedly and then told the victim that if he didn't do it that he would tell victim's mother he was gay,” police reported.

Police captured those alleged crime son surveillan­ce. Mefford has a previous conviction f or first-degree rape as a youthful offender in Tulsa County, records show.
