Three educators to be added to hall of fame
Three Oklahoma educators with more than 130 combined years of experience will be inducted into the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, 7000 NW Grand Blvd. The 2019 inductees are:
• Calvin Agee, of Sulphur, has served Oklahoma schools for 31 years as a teacher, coach and superintendent in Wayne, Pawnee, Konawa and Sulphur Public Schools. During his career, Agee spearheaded multiple initiatives, including the construction of a new elementary school, kindergarten and special education programs, class size reduction and a remedial reading program.
• Pamela Deering, of Norman, is an accomplished teacher, superintendent, director, civic leader and author. She currently is the executive director of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration. Deering taught in Oklahoma City and Moore Public Schools, as well as in Fort Worth, Texas, and served in many leadership roles in districts of all sizes, including rural, suburban and urban.
• Vernon Florence, of Edmond, has s pent 5 7 years as an Oklahoma educator, including as a teacher, administrator, superintendent and consultant. He retired in 1995 from Alex Public Schools, where he spent 23 years as superintendent. After his retirement, he remained active in education as a financial consultant, lobbyist, school district treasurer, trainer, writer and computer software developer. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award by the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration.
