MOLDAUER TAKES SECOND AT NATIONALS

Former Oklahoma standout Yul Moldauer finished in second place at the U.S. men's gymnastics championsh­ips Saturday night

Bianca Andre es cu became the first Canadian to win the Rogers Cup in 50 years when Serena Williams retired because of an injury Sunday in Toronto.

The 19- year-old Andre es cu was up 3-1 in the first set when Williams called for a medical timeout.

Less than a minute later, the chair umpire announced that the 37-year-old Williams was retiring from the match, handing Andreescu her second WTA Premier title of the season.

The tournament's final lasted only 16 minutes.

After the chair umpire announced there tirement, Williams started to cry on her bench. Andreescu went over to comfort her, hugging her and telling Williams how much she admires the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

In the men's division, Rafael Nadal won his fifth Rogers Cup ti tl e, beating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-0 in just 70 minutes in Montreal.

Late Saturday: Mikulak wins 6th national title, Moldauer finishes 2nd

Sam Mi ku la kc ru is ed to his sixth national title at the U.S. men's gymnastics championsh­ips Saturday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

The 26- year-old posted a two-day allaround total of 174.150, more than five points clear of former Oklahoma gymnast Yul Moldauer and third-place finished Akash Modi.

Mikulak, a two-time Olympian, promised he wouldn't play it safe even after staking himself to a sizable lead after t he opening night on Thursday. He wasn't kidding. He ramped up t he difficulty on his high bar set, anec essi ty next summer if he wants to bring home his first Olympic medal after coming home without one in 2012 and 2016.

Mold au er, who won the national title in 2017 while Mikulak was still recovering from an Achilles injury, overcame a messy high bar routine to hold on to second by drilling his floor exercise.

Soccer: Josef Martínez scored twice to extend his MLS-record goals streak to 10 games and Atlanta United beat New York City FC 2-1 on Sunday in Atlanta. Martínez has 10 goals in Atlanta's last seven games and scored 15 times in his last 10.

MLB: Rio Ruiz hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to carry the Orioles over Houston 8-7 Sunday in Baltimore, ending the Astros' eightgame winning streak in stunning fashion. Houston scored three runs in the top of the ninth to go up 7-5 before the Orioles answered in the bottom half against closer Roberto Osuna (3-3). Coming off a 23-2 defeat less than 24 hours earlier, Baltimore took the lead in the fifth against 2011 Cy Young winner Justin Verlander, blew the advantage and then mounted an improbable rally to end a five-game skid.
