FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
High school scrimmages kick off in Oklahoma
MOORE – As J aedyn Scott wandered on the sideline, he picked up a football and began tossing it to teammates.
It's something he has done plenty in the past. Last season, Scott was South moore' s starting quarterback. But he wanted change for his senior season.
Scott is now a starting receiver for the Sabercats. He also plays cornerback. He's no longer the main offensive figure, and he's OK with that.
Scott wants to play college football, and coaches weren't recruiting him at quarterback, so he asked how else he could help.
“(Colleges) want me to play running back, receiver, or DB,” Scott said. “I just feel like it was a good switch to make.”
Scott and coach Jeremy Stark are seeing the changes pay off early. During Friday's
scrimmage against Midwest City and Norman North, Scott was making big hits on defense and creating plays in the open field when the ball was thrown his way.
He said his time at quarterback helped him see the field better.
“It was a big transition, but I feel like I like receiver a lot
more,” Scott said. “I can be more dynamic and do more stuff with the ball.”
Norman North's Remualdo settled into QB role
There's not a question who's Norman North's leader on offense this season.
Jackson Remualdo got early playing action as a sophomore last year and eventually took the starting position from Jacob Switzer. Now a junior with plenty of experience under his belt, Remualdo is controlling the offense and working to lead Norman North back to the playoffs.
During the half scrimmage against Midwest City, he showed poise even when facing early adversity. The Timberwolves were forced to punt on their opening drive yet scored in two plays on the next one, thanks to two big running plays.
To close the scrimmage, Remualdo orchestrated a nearly 10-minute long drive to help the Timberwolves win, 7-3. His command impressed Norman North coach Justin Jones.
“For Jackson, the way he preps as a starting quarterback is huge,” Jones said. “He was thrown in the fire out there last year, so he's not making those sophomoric mistakes this year.”
