- Cameron Jourdan, Staff writer

Deer Creek will look for its two star running backs to carry the load this season.

Edmond Santa Fe move-in Tyler Travis and senior Lamorris Davis are going to be two faces opponents will have to stop this season. During last week's scrimmage, the duo played f or the first time as teammates.

“They do a really good job,” coach Wade Standley said.

At Santa Fe last season, Travis rushed for 1,147 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games. Davis only played in five contests yet managed to rush for 379 yards on 65 carries. This will be Travis' third team in as many seasons, as he played for McGuinness as a sophomore.

Standley is hoping the two can guide the Antlers into the Class 6A-II playoffs this season.

“We've got two guys back there that are a great 1-2 punch ,” Stand ley said. “We'll use both of those guys quite a bit.”

Norman North, Noble girls dominate at Blanchard Burner

During the 2- mile Blanc hard Burner cross- country race on Saturday, Robinson, a junior, won the girls race in 13:46.74, beating her closest competition by nearly a minute. Her finish helped Norman North win the team competition with 46 points.

Noble finished second in the team standings with its young twin stars leading the way. Fresh men Leah and Autumn Hickok finished third and fourth, with less than three seconds separating the twins. Blanchard's Eden Rutledge finished second in 14:37.74.

During the boys 3-mile run, Ana dark of inished first with Norman North coming in second, Blanchard third and Noble in fourth. Blanc hard junior Zach Cox finished third in 17:23.64, while Oklahoma Christian Academy sophomore Jose Garcia came in fourth in 17:49.61.

Edmond North volleyball sweeps Edmond Santa Fe

Even as the match was tight in the second set, Edmond North coach Jaclyn Burroughs reminded her team to be patient.

Making mistakes in tense moments has hurt the Huskies' volleyball team this season. As Edmond Santa Fe, t he defending Class 6A state champion, continued to battle in the second set, North was able to capitalize on stronger hitting to hold off the charging Wolves.

North captured its second victory against Santa Fe this season, sweeping the match. North (8-1 overall) used dominant first and third sets to continue its strong start to the season.

“When we played them previously, we had a lot of hitting errors,” Burroughs said. “We've really been focusing on being smart with the ball and placement over power with hitting.”

Burroughs said senior Kamryn Bacus has been a leader for North. Bacus, who was a member of The Oklahoman's 2018 All-City first team, is committed to Lipscomb.

“We've got two guys back there that are a great 1-2 punch. We'll use both of those guys quite a bit.” Wade Standley, Deer Creek coach
